It’s been so long since I’ve written over here… my husband and I had a short getaway a bit ago, before end of school/summertime things got going, and that was such a blessing. In some ways life feels busier with the kids home, in some ways less so.
We are starting summer with a bang around here. Already there’s been a birthday party and a trip to the family cabin. Next up is a week at a summer camp where my husband is leading worship, and where all three of our girls get to attend a camp. I’ll probably just sit by the pool sipping seltzer and reading all day… That’s the dream. We’ll see what the reality is!
My husband and I are working through some Bible study together this summer… We’re starting with Luke and hoping to move onto Acts. I’ve discovered that the narrative style of the New Testament books is hard for me to get through, but I know it’s a discipline I need to develop. I’m so grateful my husband is willing to walk through this and encourage and challenge me.
One of our kiddos has a difficult time transitioning from season to season, so summer can be a bit of a challenge. I would love to be the “let them play” parent but that just doesn’t always work for us. We need a bit more structure around here, which is also a challenge. We rely on workbooks and church activities and a camp here or there. Sports are now an option for her, so that’s a huge blessing as well.
In the past, I’ve spent too much time on social media and not enough time being present with our kiddos. Since I’m not on Facebook anymore, this has gotten much easier. My goal is to be a more present and more pleasant momma this summer. This past year has been a difficult one as we’ve figured out what’s been going on with my mental health and physical health, and now that those things are in order I feel so much freedom. If I have time, I’d love to do another post about what we are reading/watching/listening to this summer. We’ll see if that can happen.
I hope each of you are able to be present with the ones you love in this season, whatever that looks like.
